At the Hellenic Navy NCO Academy, particular emphasis is placed on the subject of Physical Education. Alongside the intellectual development and the theoretical and naval knowledge acquired during their three years of study at the Academy, cadets train daily for an hour and a half under the supervision of trainers, in order to improve their physical fitness and to develop certain abilities and qualities necessary for a future NCO, such as competitiveness, fighting spirit, determination to win, sportsmanship, willpower, energy, enthusiasm, and physical and mental endurance.

More specifically, the Academy’s aims through the athletic activity of cadets are:

  • The improvement of cadets’ physical fitness, the cultivation of a spirit of sportsmanship, and an emphasis on teamwork.
  • The acquisition of physical and mental endurance so that cadets can cope successfully with adverse physical conditions.
  • Familiarisation with the sea and a good command of swimming.
  • An outlet from daily academic study and the long-term development of a love for sport and physical exercise.
  • The provision of knowledge for the physical training of their subordinates.
  • The creation of conditions of equal opportunity for all cadets to exercise in all available sports facilities, with an emphasis on Naval Sports and Swimming.
  • The creation of suitable conditions for cadets to practise “the Art of Command” and the provision of data for a more objective grading of military and naval qualifications.
  • The appropriate preparation of cadets to pass the Physical Education examinations (grading).
